NEW YORK, N.Y. (BRAIN) — The annual Young Survival Coalition Tour de Pink ride on the East Coast raised more than $550,000 for the global organization over the weekend. More than 200 cyclists took part in the three-day, 245-mile charity ride that raised funds and awareness for young women affected by breast cancer. Fifty of the cyclists who did the ride are breast cancer survivors.
The ride began on Friday, Sept. 19, in Philadelphia. Saturday’s Day 2 ride rolled out of Dover, Delaware, and covered 101 miles to Salisbury, Maryland. Pedaling alongside the riders that day was Natalie Morales, news anchor of NBC’s “Today Show.”
A brief video recap of Saturday’s Tour de Pink East Coast 101-mile segment aired on The Today Show Monday, Sept. 22. A longer feature story from Morales is scheduled to air in the program’s 9 a.m. hour on Oct. 14 during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Liv, the global women’s cycling brand from Giant, has long supported YSC and the annual YSC Tour de Pink East and West Coast rides. For the past three years, Liv and YSC have sponsored contests open to breast cancer survivors to design a limited edition Liv Avail Inspire. Rena Kyles won the contest this year and rode her Avail Inspire in the Tour de Pink East.
“I had the privilege of cycling alongside these amazing women, hearing their stories, and reconnecting with old friends from past year’s rides,” said Elysa Walk, general manager of Giant USA. “Liv’s support of YSC and the Tour de Pink goes to the core of our brand’s belief: through cycling, you discover a world of new possibilities. Training for the Tour de Pink has helped them recover and become stronger. Everyone at Liv and Giant is inspired by them.”
