CORTEZ, Colo. (BRAIN) — Osprey Packs will relocate its U.S. distribution warehouse from Cortez, Colorado, to Ogden, Utah. The company said the move addresses space constraints it's faced in recent years, requiring it to patch together several smaller facilities in Cortez.
It also positions the distribution center near the national rail network, improving supply chain efficiencies, reducing its environmental impact and providing access to transportation lanes that support better service to the brand’s retail base.
The new 108,000-square-foot warehouse is being built in the Business Depot Ogden (BDO). Completion of the building along with retailer shipments from this new location is expected by mid 2015.
Osprey’s headquarters, which includes sales, customer service, marketing, finance, returns and other core functions, will remain in Cortez, Colorado. And the company said it plans to expand the Colorado headquarters to create an improved work environment and allow for continued growth of the Cortez team member base.
“This single roof distribution model will enable Osprey to better serve our partners as well as streamline most logistics processes,” said David Dunn, operations director of Osprey Packs. “After thoughtful consideration of all our options, the Osprey Logistics and Fulfillment team was extremely impressed with the Ogden community and the BDO park in particular.”
The new distribution center is set to open with up to 20 employees, many of whom will relocate from Colorado and some of whom will be new hires in Utah.
Osprey said that employees whose jobs were impacted by the move to Utah will receive financial support, the option of a relocation incentive package or new roles in the expanding Colorado headquarters.
In addition to Cortez, Colorado, and soon, Ogden, Utah, Osprey also has a design office in Mill Valley, California, which it opened in 2009. Internationally, the pack company also has a product development office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, near the factories where it manufactures its products.
