ANTWERP, Belgium (BRAIN) — Lazer Sport has unveiled the new Genesis LifeBeam helmet. The model has all the features of its Genesis helmet but with an integrated heart rate sensor.

The Genesis LifeBEAM uses electro-optical technology to measure heart rate. The optical sensor is placed on the front of the Genesis, within the existing headband of the helmet. The sensor samples the heart rate and transmits a raw signal to the processing unit, which is placed in the back of the helmet.

Lazer says this results in a highly accurate, real-time measurement of heart rate under normal and extreme physiological conditions without the problems inherent to chest straps typically used to measure heart rate.

The information gathered by the Genesis LifeBeam is transmitted to a rider’s mobile phone, sport watch or cycling computer. Genesis LifeBEAM is compatible with both ANT+ and Bluetooth receiving devices. Expected battery life has been improved to 17 hours.

Genesis LifeBeam includes all the features of the Lazer Genesis helmet, including Lazer’s Rollsys Retention system and in-mold construction. The helmet weighs 285 grams, has 19 vents and is compatible with the Genesis Aeroshell cover.

The Genesis LifeBeam is available in two sizes and certified for CE, CPSC or AS markets.

It retails for $229.
