IRVINE, Calif. (BRAIN) — Shimano on Monday announced it was entering the action camera market with the new CM-1000 Sport Camera, a $299 camera that will be available in May.

The CM-1000 is the first product from Shimano's Lifestyle Gear Division that targets the fishing and cycling markets.

Shimano said the camera integrates with existing Shimano electronics in its fishing and cycling products.

The camera produces HD movies and stills. Its F2.0 lens is said to excel in low-light conditions. The camera offers dual, standard angle 135° and super wide 180° modes, while a 90° increment auto-image rotation allows users to flip the camera in multiple directions and maintain a horizontal image plane.

The camera weighs just 86 grams and is waterproof to 10 meters out of the box, without need for an external case.  It has wifi connectivity and works with its own iOS and Android smartphone apps, which allow live views, video playback, remote adjustments to camera settings and shot framing.

It also uses ANT+ and ANT wireless connections to transmit data from bicycle computers and accessories and the new Shimano D-Fly wireless Di2 transmitter, which Shimano unveiled Sunday, to show cycling data in its captured videos.

The camera comes standard with the camera and lens cover, an adhesive mount and vented helmet mount, a USB cable and start up manual.

Besides the iOS 6.0 and Android 4.2 apps,  software for Windows 7 and Mac OS enables more comprehensive video editing, fish-eye view compensation, the display and integration of video and ANT+/ANT information to videos.

Available accessories will include a handlebar mount; a flexible mount; a chest mount; and a cap mount.
