COSTA MESA, CA (BRAIN) The National Bicycle Dealers Association is now accepting nominations for its America’s Best Bike Shops list for 2014. The program identifies and honors bicycle stores in North America.

To be considered, a store owner or manager must fill out a detailed form and agree to be evaluated by a mystery shopper. The online application asks retailers to explain what sets them apart from the competition, how they develop customer loyalty, and what they are doing to make their corner of the globe more bicycle friendly.

Retailers are awarded points based on the application and mystery shopper results, with only the highest performers making the list.

Applicants must be independent bicycle stores that sell bicycles, parts, accessories and have a service department. Fifty percent of the store's total sales must be related to bicycles and be from a physical store location to qualify.

The NBDA will announce the list of America’s Best Bike Shops for 2014 at the Interbike trade show and host a reception for the winners there. Profiles of the shops selected will run in the October post-show issue of Bicycle Retailer & Industry News. Promotional materials are provided to the shops to assist in advertising to their communities that they have been recognized by the NBDA.

The deadline for applying is March 31. The application is available on the NBDA website.

Last year’s honorees: 2013 America's Best Bike Shops.
