Giant recalls 200 bikes due to seatposts

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BRAIN) – Giant Bicycle is working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to recall its XTC Advanced SL 29er 0 and 29er 1 series models because they are spec’d with a carbon seatpost that can crack. The company is also recalling the Contact SLR 27.2-millimeter carbon fiber posts, which were sold separately for $200.

The 2013 model-year bikes sold for between $4,300 and $7,700 at Giant dealers from November 2012 to May 2013. The recall affects about 200 units. Giant has received five reports of seatposts breaking, according to the CPSC, but no reported injuries.

Consumers are being instructed to take their bikes in to their Giant dealer to get a replacement seatpost.
